Pakistan Deploys Troops to Saudi Arabia for Defense Under New Pact

by admin477351

Pakistan has confirmed a significant deployment of its military personnel to Saudi Arabia as part of a joint defence agreement aimed at bolstering the kingdom’s territorial security. This move, affirmed by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan, places Pakistani forces in Riyadh with a focus on defensive operations rather than involvement in cross-border conflicts, specifically against Yemen’s Houthi forces.

The Pakistani military has acknowledged that its personnel are engaged in various operational capacities in Saudi Arabia under the terms of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. This pact, signed on August 7, 2026, in Makkah, involves Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. It establishes a collective security framework whereby an armed attack on any one of the member states is regarded as an attack on all, thereby enhancing regional security cooperation.

This deployment underscores the commitment of Pakistan to its regional partners, particularly in maintaining stability and security in the Middle East. The collaboration reflects a strategic alignment among the three countries, focusing on mutual defence and regional peace efforts.

While the presence of Pakistani forces in Saudi Arabia is meant to strengthen the kingdom’s territorial defence, the explicit clarification from the Foreign Ministry suggests a careful approach to regional tensions, emphasizing a defensive stance rather than offensive military engagement.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement represents a significant step in formalizing security alliances among these countries. By fostering closer military cooperation, the agreement aims to deter potential threats and promote a sustained peace in the region.
