During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi reaffirmed the nation’s dedication to resolving international disputes through dialogue and peaceful negotiations. Al Busaidi emphasized the significance of dialogue in building trust and overcoming differences, while underscoring the need to respect national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law. He called for avoiding the use of force and interference in the internal affairs of states.
Al Busaidi also highlighted concerns over regional conflicts affecting security, trade, and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Oman is committed to safeguarding freedom of navigation in accordance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties involved to practice restraint and resolve disputes through dialogue and political negotiations, reaffirming Oman’s solidarity with neighboring Gulf countries in protecting their security and sovereignty.
On the crisis in Yemen, Oman reiterated its support for a political solution that maintains the country’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. Al Busaidi urged cooperation towards a settlement that respects the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people and aids in the nation’s reconstruction and development.
Additionally, Oman condemned ongoing Israeli actions in the region that affect Palestinians, reaffirming its support for Palestinian rights. The country advocates for the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, following the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions.
Oman is also actively working to promote tolerance and counter hate speech through initiatives like the Muscat Plan, in collaboration with the United Nations. Furthermore, Al Busaidi emphasized Oman’s commitment to sustainable development goals under Oman Vision 2040, focusing on renewable energy, sustainable transport, green industries, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
